I am trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a type of therapy that helps people recover from traumatic experiences. EMDR helps individuals heal and move forward from the events in the past by stimulating neural circuits through the use of manually guided eye movements. These eye movements mimic the natural processing that happens when we reach REM sleep that moves our memories from the present to the past (and in doing so allow us to move on). When we are significantly traumatized these normal mechanism for processing are overloaded and can’t finish their work. We are left with embodied memories that still feel like they are happening to us in the present even though we know they aren’t.

In order to move on from these memories and subsequent reactions (anxiety, depression, problematic behaviors, sleep issues etc…) we need to address the underlying trauma that is fueling it. EMDR focuses on that trauma in a way that both desensitizes and reframes it into a more adaptive reality. You can find out more about this amazing therapy at www.emdria.org!
