I am trained and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a type of therapy that helps people recover from traumatic experiences. Through a process called bi-lateral stimulation, we are able to process experiences of trauma, abuse, and neglect (PTSD) without having to relive them. Bi-lateral stimulation mimics and induces the natural processing that happens for most people during the REM stage of sleep. When an event is too overwhelming, however, our mind is unable to process through these things naturally and our nervous system continues to register that something is “happening” to us in the present even when it is long past. EMDR helps address this issue and allows us to quickly resolve the legacy of traumatic experience in our nervous system.
